Since 2014 We Have Provided Intervention For Children Who Sexually Abuse Other Children

Within Pietermaritzburg and its surrounding areas, there is currently no program that specifically addresses this challenge.

The concern around children abusing other children is twofold.  On the one hand there is the victim to consider, a child being sexually abused is wrong regardless of whether it was by an adult or a child. The impact of the abuse is very often negative leaving the child with a range of emotional/psychological issues to deal with. Overcoming and healing from these issues does not happen overnight. On the other hand, there is the child “offender” to consider, simply because he or she is still a child and if no effort to treat the behaviour is made the chances are high that this child is very likely to become an adult offender. In most cases, children don’t just abuse other children “just because”, they have learned this behaviour from somewhere or from someone. Somewhere along the line they have been misguided, so when the behaviour starts or is identified, they need guidance in order to stop the negative behaviour. The organisation’s establishment was motivated by the stipulations of the Child Justice Act No 75 0f 2008 where it categorises the ages of children who are in conflict with the law in terms criminal capacity levels as well as interventions needs thereafter.
